Screenings and other programmes
A temporary exhibition room has been set up for the duration of the show, where mini-displays are presented which reflect on the spirit and work of the BBS. One of the halls has been turned into a cinema and lecture hall, where every afternoon, on opening days, different BBS films are screened from 2 pm, in edited form, representing the entire history of the Studio in chronological order.

BBS Nights
Every Thursday, special programmes await you in the cinema, where fellow artists give the insider view on directors and oeuvres that defined the work of the Studio. Combined with film screenings and open until 10 pm, some of the events will offer performances by, and panel discussions with, the representatives of such international and Hungarian centres of creative thought that can be compared with the spirit of the BBS era, and artist groups which grew out of the work at the Studio.

BBS 50. Essays for the 50th Anniversary of Balázs Béla Studio – book premiere
December 17, 2009, Thursday, 6 pm The first BBS Night presents the volume of studies that appeared parallel with the opening of the exhibition. Featuring editor Gelencsér Gábor and the authors. Published in Hungarian and English, the impressive volume includes 22 studies that discuss the studio from different angles, concentrating on its periods, the types of film made, and its connection to the related arts and sciences. Unconventionally, but true to the progressive spirit of BBS, most of the authors are young critics, film makers, visual artists, writers and historians, who take a fresh, modern look at the history of the Balász Béla Studio.

BBS Archive
Beside the exhibition, the many years of work that has gone into its preparation has had other results as well. For starters, most of the films made at the studio can be now watched in our library; and for the duration of the exhibition, the BBS Archive will move into the apse in Műcsarnok, where these films can be searched and watched on eight computers, using the search engine on the website of BBS.

Also, the first release of a new DVD series has come to see the light: Agitátorok is now available for purchase.

The exhibition and other events of the anniversary are the result of a cooperation project between Műcsarnok, the Hungarian National Film Archive and the Balázs Béla Studio Foundation, which began in 2006. The website www.bbsarchiv.hu and the BBS Media Library, hosted by Műcsarnok’s library, are also parts of this cooperation, and facilitate research into the cultural heritage of the Balázs Béla Studio, as well as education programmes. The resulting BBS Archive has served preliminary work on both the exhibition and the volume of studies.
